Information and articles about Chamber Singers

SOUTH BEND — The South Bend Chamber Singers present Italian opera composer Gioachino Antonio Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the O’Laughlin Auditorium at Saint Mary’s College.

Rossini, who had retired from composing operas about 34 years before he wrote Petite Messe Solennelle in 1863, described the composition as “the last of my péchés de vieillesse” (sins of old age).

Despite the use of the word “petite” in the title, this is a major extended work in the missa solemnis tradition, for chorus, four soloists, two pianos and harmonium.

Guest artists for the performance are soloists Tess Altiveros, soprano; Toby Newman, mezzo-soprano; Carlos Cárdenas, tenor; Benjamin Sieverding, bass; and guest conductor Emerson Eads.

Tickets are $16-$10.
